Malachi couldnt believe what he had just been called, she thought he was a pain in the ass? Seriously, right now she was wanting to start an argument? Any other time he might have let it go or stewed on it for three hours and come right back again but there was no lost in translation moment for being a pain in the ass. Malachi took a moment to figure out exactly what he wanted to say in Italian. The problem with the language was it wasnt the easiest he found and frankly when trying to argue in it, he could have put it across far stronger in Hebrew he thought. “Dolore al culo, non ho due anni. Non devo essere detto cosa fare quando so che sto bene. Lo farò e tornerò a casa, i bambini sono lì e dovrei spiegare.” (Pain in the ass, I'm not two years old. I don't have to be told what to do when I know I'm fine. I will walk it off and go home, the children are there and I should explain.) He snapped knowing it wasnt okay to do so but he was fine, would be fine and right now he felt like the worlds worst father for having the children see what they had and not taken care of the issue sooner. He had put his family in danger and that wasnt okay on any level. Malachi watched Lizzie, he could see her sweat though he was unaware of any tears though he was sure they would be somewhere. When she asked him again to lie down he shook his head. “How many languages do I need to say no in. I know you understand it so why aren’t you listening to me.” He snapped again though he heard her say it was going to hurt. “What are you meaning, I’m fin...” Malachi protested though he was too caught up in arguing his point of fine that all he could do was hiss at the sudden burst of pain. She was right, it was going to hurt. Well she had her wish, he was laying down he thought as he could feel himself start to shiver with cold as she chanaged the gauze. Great laying down and he was cold, reason one why it was a bad idea. “No you’re not fine, I know you Elizabeth and we are focusing on you because you got your wish. I’m laying down.” He said still holding a grudge about that though it was only temporary and his sudden bad mood didnt exactly help matters. “I can apologize and I will because I failed and I know it. So i’m sorry Lizzie and I’ll keep saying it.” He stated, well as long as he was breathing he would do. “I told you I’m fine, don’t argue with me on this. I’ve made a compartmentalize so you can too.” He said aiming for the word compromise though he furrowed his brow when he knew he had screwed that argument up too. “You know what I mean so are you okay?” He asked her knowing he would be his usual unfinsed self when it came to finding out, subtly when it came to anything outside his job had a ninety percent chance of going wrong or rather he wasn’t the most accomplished ‘feelings’ person in the world so he just straight out and asked things, right or wrong. Malachi glanced around to make sure there wasnt anyone near him but Lizzie, he would sooner jump out of the back of the ambulance than have anyone else touch him. He was angry, cold, annoyed and most of that at himself for what he saw as a failing. He wanted to apologize for it but had been told no, he had tried to protect family and in that he had probably given three children and his wife nightmares and managed to get himself stabbed. Not his finest hour. “Can we leave ice cream for later... too cold for that... how about soup for dinner?” He asked randomly as he felt his eyes close a little as if he wanted to sleep. Tag: Lt. Col. Liz knew that she was going to be regretting the words as soon as they left her mouth. Okay, well maybe just keeping her mouth shut was a better option. Our preschooler is a less a pain in the ass than you right now. Lucky for her the words didn’t come out. Liz was frozen in emotion on her face. There was nothing there. She’d started an argument and now she was going to be childish and play the silent card. It was better that way. ‘Why aren’t you listening to me?’ The phrase hit her harder than it should have. Why wasn’t she listening to her husband? She knew the answer. She resisted the urge to snap at him about saving his life. Liz bit her tongue and just focused on keeping him from bleeding out on the ride to the hospital. ‘You got your wish’. Why did he have to be such a jerk at times? He was right, she wasn’t fine. She was far from fine. ‘Don’t argue with me’ Too damned bad ‘Are you okay?’ Does it look like I am okay? she was keeping her sarcasm in her head for now at least. She said nothing more on the way to the hospital. Once they got there she ended up tossing her stomach contents a few times she was so upset. A few hours went by and Liz had cried herself to sleep on a cold chair in Malachi’s room. He was still asleep when she’d drifted off. Every monitor pulse had her eyelids growing heavier. She was still covered in his blood, but right now it didn’t matter. He was alive to even have the fight that she knew was coming. She’d gone against him, but it was worth it. Tag: Sgt. Malachi Dovev

Malachi had never been sure how to take the silence card, there was nothing in her face to read. No hint of emotion he could go off to argue with just silence on all fronts. Great, she had started the argument and what he was left to argue with himself now? For all he knew about how to read people he didnt understand people at all some days and this was one of those occasions where he would have been better at judging if someone was going to shoot at him or not. “No, still not listening to me but why not just give me the silence treatment.” He stated knowing he was being an idiot but then talking worked at times. Maybe not for him but when it came to his wife, talking to know what was going on with her yes. She was telling him what to do when all he wanted was to get home and pretend that the day hadn’t happened at all. Was that so wrong of him? He had killed a guy in front of family and sure it was what he did and he did it well but there were things he wasnt exactly comfortable with. For one how easily distracted he was, he had protected those he loved but gotten himself hurt for it which he didnt mind at all. Hell he’d jump in front of moving traffic if it would save his family but he couldnt do anything for them if he wasnt there. Would a trained military assailant have been an issue for him normally, no. It was just another day in the office but today wasnt any other day, it wasnt work it wasnt training it was a family day. Time off that had been invaded in the worst way and now he was struggling to think straight with his wife giving him the silent treatment. Malachi didnt remember much about the hospital other than trying to argue that he didnt want to be touched which lasted a few moments until things went black. It seemed to stay that way forever as he dreamed of being home, the kids happy and Lizzie talking to him again. His thoughts were invaded by that beeping, the annoying piercing sound of beep, beep, beep, beep. Over and over again he could hear her as he turned his head which felt like it was taking forever. He opened his eyes slightly to see the sight of the numbers and the wavy lines that seemed to spike with every annoying beep he heard. If he had any way of making it stop he would have done but it seemed so far away and yet so close but he had no idea as things felt a little in and out to him. His head felt like it was in ten places at once as he remembered the park, the arguing, the sounds of the children crying as he glanced to see Lizzie. He could feel himself relax a little when he saw her until he saw the blood, his head was fuzzy as he didnt even think it was his. Nope, it was straight to the worst possible thing, it was hers. “Zeeee” He muttered though in his head he was screaming Lizzie though his mouth wasnt exactly cooperating as it felt like he had been licking desert sand for the past hour. His throat was dry and nothing seemed to work like it should as he tried to feel for the buzzer for the nurse. “Zeeee, help... Azru, Azru!” (Help, help) He tried to call but again it came out in a muttered croak which only made things worse as he stared at the blood on her. His head didnt consider much other than it had to be the worst possible thing imaginable. Someone had tried to hurt her when she was in the hospital, he wasn’t there to help her and there was blood. “HaShem.” (Her blood) He stated firmly as his hands tried to grab the call button as he felt the panic begin to rise in his chest. The last thing he had said to her, it wasn’t an I love you or anything of the sort it was an argument as tried to move to get to her with limited results. Tag: Lt. Col. Elizabeth Dovev

Hearing Malachi freak out, she was confused for a moment. Leaning over him she put a hand on the side of his face. “Malachi. Shhh. Right here.” She wrapped her other hand around his to try and quiet him down. When he mentioned the blood was hers, she shook her head. “No, not mine.” She took her shirt off not caring that she was showing her camisole underneath. It had managed to stay clean. The sleeves of her blouse on the other hand were a different story. Tossing her blouse aside she looked back to Malachi. She started showing him that she wasn’t hurt. “I’m not hurt.” She did her best to calm him down. Taking the call button from him she moved it out of his reach. The last thing that she needed was him to become more worked up. When the nurse came in, Lizzie intervened once more. She had already spoken with them about Malachi being touched. The nurse put the things on a tray for Lizzie to take care of Malachi. The nurse also dropped off water for the both of them. Lizzie gave Malachi some in a cup. Liz was running ten million things in her head but Malachi telling her that she wasn’t listening to him struck her hard. Then again if she had, he wouldn’t be here right now. Swallowing her thoughts she started to change the dressing on his side. What was she supposed to say? The kids were with her parents now. They were safe and they were having fun; away from this crazy. That wasn’t to say that Gabriel wasn’t asking questions. He was at the age where he still wanted to see what was going on. “Mom is bringing the children and some ice cream with her.” Liz explained trying to turn the subject to anything except what was going through her head. So she made sure he would keep his promise to the kids. Liz knew how much it meant to all of them. Though she knew as soon as her mother came there was going to be a large amount of chiding at her for not listening to Malachi. Tag: Sgt. Malachi Dovev

Mossad had always taught him to keep his head and never to panic. Mossad didnt have a wife and children to worry about. Sure he wasnt the first agent to have a family or a wife but the fear and panic that came with it he had completely underestimated. He felt her hand on the side of his face as he leaned into it, it was her he knew her touch as he felt her take his hand as he felt himself hold onto her hand tightly. She was there and he wasnt about to let her go just in case. Malachi stared at the camisole under her shirt, no blood. Was she really alright? “You’re not hurt.” He said for a moment, a little confused though when he realised again where he was it made more sense as he smiled at her. “No you’re not hurt. Not hurt.” He repeated taking a breath though he didnt want to let go of her hand at all. He was about to ask her what was going on when he saw the nurse. Instantly he could feel himself tense, not just for himself but for Lizzie too just in case the nurse had other ideas and tried anything stupid. When the nurse left after dropping off the tray he let go of Lizzie’s hand as he took the water from her. “Toda.” (Thank you) He said as he took to drinking the water as she changed the dressing on his side. She had no idea how appreciative he was that she did it, Malachi wasnt one for having people touch him and he would have fought tooth and nail to get out of that hospital if a nurse or doctor had tried to do anything to him while he was conscious. No, if he didnt know them he didnt trust them and the people he did know the only one he trusted to be close to him was Lizzie. Malachi tried to smile and nod to her as she explained about her mum and the children. He was relieved they were safe but ice cream was really the last thing on his mind as he gazed at her for a moment. The last things he had said to her could have been the very last things he had said to her and it wasnt an ‘I love you’ or ‘See you in a few days’. No he had accused her of not listening to him but she was still letting him keep his promise to the children. After what he had said it was a wonder she was even there at all though he was happy she was. With that in mind he placed the glass down as he attempted to get up. “We need to go home. I need you to talk to me.” He said before he shook his head, nope that wasnt what he was aiming for at all. “I need you to let me talk to me.. I mean you.” Eventually he guessed it would make sense among the drugs he thought he was practically flying already as he placed his hand on his chest. “I ... need to talk to you.” He said as he pointed to her and attempted to reach for her hand. “Ani Ohevet Otcha” (I love you) He said meaning every word as he tried not to show the worry in his face or eyes. “Eich Omrim et Zeh Be.” (How do I say this.) Malachi muttered looking anywhere but toward her not sure where to even start to say what he wanted to or not. “Lizzie, I’m sorry for what I said. You didnt deserve that and if that was the last thing I said... no I’m sorry Lizzie I was worried and I know you listen. I know that but you needed to be safe, I cant protect you and the children if... you where there, he was there, what if there were two or more? I wanted you to be safe.” He rambled trying to say what he wanted to but between his mind and his mouth, well it was lucky if anyone could make that into anything though in broad strokes he guessed it was there with what he wanted to say. Just maybe not in so many words. Tag: Lt. Col. Elizabeth Dovev

Lizzie tried to calm down so that she could keep him calm. Though she was still sitting on the emotions of the event. She ran her hand over his and tried to figure out what she wanted to say. She lifted the camisole and showed him her side where the blood had been on her shirt. “See, not hurt.” She reassured him before putting her camisole back down. It had taken a good bit of coaxing to get the nurses to let her take over. There was still no telling if she could convince the doctor’s of the same. Malachi had been unconscious for the surgery, so there had been that. Sighing Lizzie just kept herself busy. She still didn’t know what to say to him other than to take care of him. That wasn’t even a second thought. Liz was the type to make sure that promises were kept, and she knew that Malachi was the same. Though she was trying to figure out what to say that wouldn’t start an argument. Because saving his life had done just that. If he thought for one second she was going to change her mind about it, then he was sadly mistaken. Though she wasn’t about to voice the thought but it was circling her mind. What to say, what to say. When Malachi said they needed to go home, Lizzie just nailed him with a stern objective look. She listened as he fumbled for the words. When he reached her hand, she let him have it once more. Though when he said that he needed to talk to her, she had a feeling he was going to start in on how she hadn’t listened to him or something again. But she said nothing as she internalized the worst. Elizabeth could tell that he was confused. All she did was nod to what he said. Anything she could or would have said was asking for a fight. Her hand curled over his as she just brushed it with her hand. “I understand.” It was the only true statement she could make. Telling him that she would do it again in a heartbeat? No there was better options. Liz went back to her quietness and tried to get herself out of her head. Tag: Sgt. Malachi Dovev

Malachi studied her side just in case she had missed something, he doubted it but then he had to be sure she was alright because it was what he did. Nothing else mattered but Lizzie and the children and they were okay no matter what else was going on. “Not hurt, that’s good Ahavah.” He said as he nodded watching her for a moment, she was thinking or quiet thinking which he still wasnt sure about but then he had been thinking about things too or at least as much as his head would allow for the day. Malachi hated hospitals, too many ingress and egress points, too many weapons and too much traffic for him to know what was going on. There was no time to study the habits of the hospital and its staff all he could do was sit there and feel useless. It was about as good a torture chamber as any he had come across in his time and he had seen a few. Malachi wanted to say everything he thought to her, everything he wanted her to know but he hadn’t been the greatest in expressing himself. Other people did the expressing and he just decided on the appropriate response, laugh, clap or pat someone on the shoulder until they stopped crying. Forbid they actually made a line to hug him because that never ended well for the other person, ever. He was grateful that Lizzie had let him keep his promise to the children even if he thought it would be better at home, at least then he knew his way around. He knew that the people in the house were there and it was safe rather than a hospital in which he had little control. Malachi tried not to grin when she gave him that stern objective look but he couldn’t help himself. It was the little things that he appreciated, he had been stabbed and she was giving him a stern look, Lizzie was still Lizzie. “I’m still going home with everyone else after ice cream. It’s a super food.” He stated as he was sure Lizzie knew his feelings about ice cream. Some guys had cars, planes or trucks. He had ice cream. Malachi watched her as he could see she was quiet, the nod to what he said and the lack of words even though he was confused he knew something wasn’t right. “You do?” Malachi blurted when she said she understood, he was lucky if he understood he thought as he eyed her suspiciously. Too quiet he thought as he squeezed her hand. “Lizzie... talk to me, what is wrong?” He asked knowing that usually apologised for things or well tried to once he figured out what he had done wrong and if he thought had done something wrong. Malachi didnt want to fight with her but at the same time he didnt want her to be quiet as he knew it maybe prolonged an argument anyway. Well he figured he could always blame the drugs for the most part as he decided to just out and start saying things and hopefully hit what was wrong on the way. “You didn’t listen to me Lizzie but it’s okay because you’re okay. The guy was dangerous, too dangerous.” He explained, “I just wanted you and the children safe, home is safe the park... not safe.” And it was a lot less safe now as he figured any further trip to the park was going to be in full combat gear just to be on the safe side. The words first baby and toddler bag with a rocket launcher in it. Tag: Lt. Col. Elizabeth Dovev
