Saluting
Enlisted Personnel shall salute warrant officers and commissioned officers unless:
- They are inside (exception is reporting for duty)
- Combat Zone
- When impractical (such as carrying things that require two hands)
- Either Enlisted personnel or officer is in civilian clothing.
Civilians may salute commissioned officers:
- If they are outside
- by choice (it is a not a requirement)
- even if the civilian is not a part of the jtf
- when the officer is in uniform
Uniforms
Full Dress Uniforms (to include medals):
- Formal ceremonies
- Changing of officers
- Dress Whites for Navy
Dress Uniform:
- Reporting for Duty (if JTF)
- Court Appearances
- Dress Blues for Navy
Casual dress uniforms:
- Reporting for Duty (if not JTF)
Fatigues (BDU's):
- While deployed on missions
- Training and PT related activities
Covers:
- Are to remain in place at all times (exception see below)
- Navy personnel is to remove their cover and tuck it under their arm when entering a building. It is to be worn outdoors with dress uniforms at all times.)
Standing at attention
- When talking to an officer, stand at attention until ordered otherwise.
- When you're dismissed or when the officer departs, come to attention (and salute if outdoors)
- When speaking to or being addressed by an NCO (E-4 or higher) of superior rank, stand at parade rest until ordered otherwise.
- When an officer enters a room, the first enlisted person to recognize the officer calls personnel in the room to attention.
- Walk on the left of and slightly behind an officer or NCO of superior rank.
- When entering or exiting a vehicle or boat, the junior ranking military member is the first to enter, and the senior in rank is the first to exit
- Stand at attention until you are told to called to "at ease"
Using Rank
Enlisted:
- Officers go by sir or ma'am (DO NOT Address them by rank)
- When an officer enters a room, the first enlisted person to recognize the officer calls personnel in the room to attention.
- Stand at attention until told to do otherwise (following standing at attention)
Officers:
- May use rank with each other (including their senior officers)
- May call an enlisted person by rank
