A soft smile came to Jay's lips as Chloe said that just because he was used to doing things on his own, didn't mean that he had to anymore, reminding him that he had people who cared about him and wanted to help him. "I know," he assured. It may take some getting used to, but I'm not turning it down, he thought to himself. He wasn't that stupid. Well, not anymore. And okay, granted, he could've made himself some soup, but this was so much better.
His smile grew a bit as she giggled, saying that he wasn't any fun and if morphine was an allergy it should be listed as such, telling him that she didn't remember reading it in his profile like his lactose intolerance was, telling him not to worry about the soup. "Good to know...about the soup I mean. And I don't think a side effect of having a penchant for singing show tunes when injected with something would constitute as an allergy, but then again, I'm not a medic or a doctor, so what do I know?" he countered with a shrug.
When she said that she was glad that he had been easy to convince because she would've hated to have to come up with reasons to stay, he smiled at her. "You never have to make an excuse," he assured her. How'd I get so lucky? he wondered. He didn't deserve such a good friend. Also, what if this was inappropriate? Nah, she was just checking on one of her guys, something she'd do for anyone. That was all.
He watched as her face lit up saying that she'd be happy to stay if he was sure. "I am," he confirmed as she settled in next to him, asking him what movie he wanted to watch. "Top Gun," he responded. Hey, it was a pretty good movie, for something about the navy. And she'd probably like it for Tom Cruise. Not that he knew for sure that she was a Tom Cruise girl. Meh, his thoughts weren't making sense.

She laughed, “Show tunes huh? This I definitely have to be around for, or you could just put my curiosity to rest and sing me something now…I mean I don’t have any morphine for you, but I did bring you medicine and some pretty good soup… that should count for something.” She nudged him in the side careful not to spill the soup, “Do you take requests, or is it just random?”
Oh, there was that smile again. The one that was enough to short circuit her brain, a smile like that should be completely illegal. When he assured her that she never needed an excuse to stay she smiled, “Yes I do, because if I was completely honest with myself and you… that’s all it was, an excuse so I could stay here with you longer. I’ve missed you.” Wow, that was outloud. Taking another bite of her salad she tried to focus on anything but the way Jay made her feel, she was simply supposed to be here checking on him and making sure he was ok.
As she got comfortable sitting next to him and he said he wanted to watch Top Gun she snorted out a laugh, “Ahhhh…Navy fly boys gotta love ‘em… cockiest single bunch of men I’ve ever met and had to deal with, but a pretty good move in spite of it. Guess you can’t go wrong with Tom Cruise, but I always liked Val Kilmer better… even if his character was a jerk.”
She went back to munching on her salad in silence as she thought about everything, when she’d finished and saw that Jay was done with his soup she took the bowl and her trash to the kitchen. “There’s more soup in the fridge if you decide you want some more later. I’m just going to quick wash your bowl for you.” She called back over her shoulder, “Do you think you can manage to make it to the sofa and start the movie or do you need some help?”
As she finished with the bowl and set it on the counter to dry she walked to the sofa grabbed Jay’s blanket from earlier and covered him with it before she sat down next to him. Scooting closer she smiled at him, “For the record… I don’t make house calls for just anyone, just thought you might want to know that.” She bit her lip trying to decide if she should have said that or not, but deciding it was too late to take it back even if it was a mistake she lay her head on his shoulder and watched the first bit of the movie in silence.

Jay grinned as Chloe laughed about the fact that morphine made him sing show tunes, saying that she'd have to stick around for it, adding that he could always put her curiosity to rest and sing for her right then and there, adding that even though she didn't have any morphine but that she had brought him soup and medicine which should count for something. "Hmm...I think I'll pass on that. My voice is pretty horrible," responded and then let out another laugh as she asked if he took requests or if it was random. "Not sure to be honest, though I think it might be random. The few times it's happened, I've only had a vague recollection," he confessed. And if he was being completely truthful, he was extremely grateful for that. Knowing that morphine had such a strange effect on him was pretty embarrassing and he didn't really want that kind of thing in his head for posterity.
His smile grew as she said the excuse had been necessary because her bringing him food was just an excuse to stay longer, saying that she had missed him. "Yeah?" he asked, his voice hopeful. Wow. He probably sounded pathetic. Oh well. He was too sick to care. She missed me, he thought to himself. "I missed you too," he admitted. Okay, granted, he had tried to hide the fact that he was sick, but that was more so that he wouldn't bother someone. And it was a bother, he was sure of it. Well, anything more than just getting the necessary medical leave. After all, the last thing he wanted was for the brass to think that he was shirking his duties.
He then gave a shrug as she commented on his movie choice, saying you had to love Navy fly boys even though they were the cockiest bunch of guys she had been around, adding that while one couldn't go wrong with Tom Cruise, she had always preferred Val Kilmer's character even though he was a jerk. "Yeah it's a good movie. It was my mom's favorite. She had a thing for Tom Cruise," he said. What could he say? It made him feel like she was actually there with him, especially since watching movies together had been her thing when he and Will were sick.
After he was finished eating, he watched as she took the dishes to the sink before returning to him, telling him that there was more in the refrigerator later and that she was going to wash the bowls real quick, asking if he thought he could get to the sofa and start the movie or if he would need help, he flashed her a smile. "I got it," he assured and stood up, going to his DVD cabinet and getting the movie, turning on the t.v., switching the screen to the DVD player, opening the slot, placing the movie in and then going to sit down.
He smiled again as she told him that she didn't make house calls for just anyone and wanted him to know that. "Glad you made an exception for me," he told her as he started the movie, the smile growing as she laid her head on his shoulder. He then settled back and focused on the movie. With the way he was feeling, he'd probably fall asleep in the middle of it, but at least he had Chloe right next to him.
