Something was not right.
The XO had made a face. Usually, it was a no-talking, no-breathing zone from then on out. Julien continued to stand solidly in attention as the XO questioned him.
"Do you know what tea is Gunny?"
Julien held back a gulp as his back ached from the stiffness, his head faced the XO and with a stoic expression went for a snap response, "No ma'am. I don't know what tea is."
"What is this?"
The lid had been opened, the smell wafted from it. Whatever it was, it certainly was not tea. Julien could feel a well of anger within him that he did his best to supress during this moment. Had the CO misinformed him of what he was handing over to the XO? Or was it an initiation for being the first to cross Reagan's path? He felt his head being pushed forward suddenly, his eyes being heated by the steam that emanated from the cup. "Not tea, ma'am. Pumpkin coffee." Julien replied, forcing his mouth open to prevent himself from giving a gritted response.
To be fair, it was still coffee.
He watched as Amberson stuck the lid back onto the coffee, allowing him time to straighten himself back up, watching as she took a couple of steps away.
It happened in a blur - one minute the XO had seemingly given the end of her rant and the next, coffee had been pitched at him.
And all he could do was take it.
For most spilled down his shirt and the coffee was still a little more than warm, it stung his skin as he stood, desperately attempting to keep his posture. Julien's first thought was not of the immediate incident but the need to get his uniform straight to the launderettes in quick haste. Once his brain had time to process it, Julien was a little more than angry. He was pissed.
But, he was not allowed to show that.
"Bring me a coffee. Cream and sugar."
Julien did not like the smirk that came the order.
"At ease."
That one he could do. He fell into the stance, hands behind his back as he stood now at ease. There had not been the order that he was dismissed, and at this point in time, he did not know where he stood with the Colonel - nor how to act around her. "Colonel, I have not been dismissed." He forgo-ed with asking what sort of coffee she liked, she could end up having whatever was the cheapest option. Julien gave a quick glance down at his uniform, noticing that the colonel seemed to be fixing up some wires, eliciting a small grimace of annoyance.
