Zach kicked the soccer ball into the net. It was just him, the ball, and the net. Angry was a word that came to mind. Zach had plenty of it too. Though he’d learned to be more constructive with his anger in recent years. Madison knew how to calm him down but that wasn’t really an option right now. Family had always been a sore subject with Zach and he was protective. Javan was back and it wasn’t easy losing someone to have them come wandering back into things. Everything had gone from a “new normal” to complete chaos. Though he knew where his mom’s loyalties were. The whole situation was hurtful for everyone involved.
Zach wasn’t sure he was ready to face Madison with this yet. Hell, he wasn’t even sure he was willing to face all of this. He’d been home taking care of his mom, yet he had a wife to look after too. Being two places at once was exhausting and he’d hardly slept since he’s gotten back from Korea. He’d written Madison a note and told her he’d be home later in the day after he went to go see his mom and head to the rec center.
This was his thinking place. Maybe he should just face his wife, tell her the truth and forget that he just wanted to break. Stephanie and Javan had all but forced his hand into going into the military. In fact, his mom had signed the parental waiver and handed it to him one day telling him if he didn’t sign it then he could find somewhere else to live when he turned 18.
Zach had never turned it in. He had wanted nothing to do with the Army. He’d come back later with a waiver for the Marines instead. He’d been upset at his mom and so gave it to Javan to sign instead. He knew Stephanie would have never signed off on the Marines. Now here he was with his life turned around when it all started to feel like it was crumbling back down again. No, he wasn’t that seventeen year old kid anymore. He was twenty-four and capable of handling things now. He slammed the soccer ball again into the net. This time kicking up more grass than contact was made with the ball.
