Kim sighed as she walked into the bar and went to the counter. "What can I get ya?" the bartender asked. "Rum and coke," she requested. "Coming up," the man responded and she sighed as he went to make the drink. Today had been long. Twelve-hour flight and on her feet for most of it. Hate the long ones, she thought to herself. But at least she was home now and could relax. The only thing that would make this better was if Adam was home. But he wasn't. Not that she knew where he was---he could never tell her. But at least he usually dropped her a quick line to let her know that he was okay. Though to be honest, this had recently stopped. So either he couldn't contact her or----no! She wasn't going to go that route! He was alive. She just had to keep believing that. Though if it turned out that he wasn't, what was going to happen to the apartment? It was in his name and she wouldn't be able to do anything financial or otherwise if something had happened.
A small thump broke through her reverie and she jumped slightly before realizing that the bartender had merely put her drink down. "Jumpy," the bartender noted. "Sorry. Lost in thought," she stated and then took a small swig of the beverage. Hate drinking alone, she thought to herself. Oh well. It wasn't like she could do anything about it. No, Adam was gone and she would just have to suck it up. And that was okay. She had done that before and she'd do it again. Okay, she had to stop thinking about this. The plan was to get drunk. Good and drunk. And that was the only thing that really even mattered.
