Madison was looking into her options for ROTC and other military options, so she was at some Airforce Event. Though honestly she was bored. It was all if this then that spiels from the various departments. Not that she got an option but talking to them would definitely give her some insight. Though as she stopped near the flight crew hovering around an F-22 she got distracted by the jet itself. Entirely mesmorizing. Pulling her hair back into her ponytail she had her eyes glued to the jet.
She had not told her parents what she wanted to do. Her mom was going to flip and her stepdad ... surely he would understand. He had been a pilot right? At least that is what she gathered from listening to their banter. Something about flying squid or something. Madison wasn't going to pretend to understand what that was all about.
Shaking the thoughts she moved to see who was here from the crew. Right... the pilot was probably missing somewhere. That was who she had been hoping to see. Madison read the name on the fire. Major Dovev and Firefly were painted just under the cockpit. Firefly was an interesting call sign for someone. She simply quirked a brow searching the crowd.

He's clearly annoyed, he’s grumpy and agitated because this is the absolute last place he wants to be today, but they had insisted that he put on his uniform and come to this stupid thing. He’s being a jerk, so much so that some of the guys here with him have asked him what was going on, blowing them off he tells them he’s fine and just wants to get this show over with. He’s joined the air force to be a pilot, not to get dressed up pretty and try to convince people to join up. Far as he’s concerned if they really need convincing they don’t belong anyway.
‘Great’ Brian thinks ‘stuck at some stupid event for kids babysitting the jet.’ He’s lost count of the number of the idiots he’s had to chase off from the jet, feels like he’s got “Don’t touch the jet, and feel free to look but please don’t touch” playing on repeat in his head. They were supposed to be taking turns between standing here watching the jet, and speaking to those interested in joining up. Brian is pretty sure that it’s well past his turn to be doing anything other than this. “Ugh.” He groans, before turning to see a beautiful girl pulling her long hair back into a ponytail. He watches her study the jet, and decides that she has to be the prettiest thing he’s seen since coming to Tierny. He sees her quirk her brow and start searching for someone so he confidently approaches her asking, “Pretty girl like you looking for someone in particular, or just looking? If you’re interested in the jet I might could break a couple rules and let you take a closer look, but it’d have to be later. Be mighty hard to explain to Bob over there” gesturing to a kid he had just run off for messing with the jet, “why I ran him off and I’m letting you get as close as you want. Of course, if the kid has eyes…I’m sure he’d understand.” He grins.

Madison tore her eyes off the jet but only to address the person talking to her. "Madison." She corrected him. Names were always good. While she wasn't raised military she knew enough to know the ranks and that he was one of the newer recruits. At least within a few years. She read his name tag. "Airman Crawford" Well his tag didn't say Airman she was just reading his rank logo. Though the name came off her lips like a cordial greeting.
"Actually I am just here looking around." She was looking into ROTC but that was beside the point. Nope she needed someone of a higher rank to answer all her questions. "Had a few questions for some of the pilots" she shrugged as she stuck her hands in her pocket. Then she heard someone who seemed to be getting into trouble just behind them. She had heard the "Yes ma'am Major. Won't happen again Ma'am" blabbering bit.
Ouch that woman sounded like a hard ass. Though the exact opposite was true. Though impressions. "Then again ..." she wasn't so sure she wanted to talk to anyone here. Not if they all had sticks up their butt. Then again didn't most pilots? At least that is what her mother had told her when she had asked about it. Officers didn't really bother her... at least not living with them. Then again that was probably not how things worked outside of the house.

"Hey Madison, you can call me Brian but I can make that happen for you if you give me a minute. She's otherwise occupied at the moment, but as soon as she's done...um, doing what she's doing, I'll get her over here so you can talk to her. In the meantime I can give you a closer look at the Jet if you'd like, and I can answer just about any question you have about it...I work on it every day. I'm going to be flying her soon enough, next year hopefully, at least that's the plan."
Wondering to himself what the Major was crawling somebody for this time, he hoped that she would get it out of her system so that when he approached her to let her know that Madison had some questions she would at least be friendly to the girl. It would make him look bad if he brought the Major over and she was rude. He was trying to make a good impression here, and apparently Madison wasn't impressed by the uniform and smooth talking alone. He was going to have to try a little harder to impress her, which was strange for him he'd never had to work to impress a girl before. Usually it was quite the opposite.
"So Madison, what kind of questions do you have? I'll still get the Major over here, but I was standing where you are not too long ago...I've got lots of information about what comes next and how to get your foot in the door. No I can't fly the jet yet, but I work on it daily and have made it my mission to know it inside and out." He's nothing if not persistent and for some reason this girl has intrigued him, and he wants to know more about her.

Madison quirked a brow. "Wait she?" It was rare that women were tall enough to fly let alone. "You do realize that there is only like 185 of these things made right? And you're telling me the pilot is a she?" she seemed amused as a smirk came across her face. When he said he wanted to fly she smiled, of course he did. ALL the men wanted to fly. "Oh you want the officer stick too?" There was laughter .
Lucky for Brian, Liz kept herself compartmentalized. The other Airman came scampering by, Liz now had him doing things like cleaning the outhouses. The guy gave Brian a 'she's ticked' look. "He doesn't look to thrilled. Let me guess he's the bad one and you are the goody two shoes" she mused with a mild amusement on her face.
Elizabeth came over with one of the other airman in tow. "Crawford. You are done for the day. Go get some lunch meet back at the hanger eighteen hundred hours." She informed him. "and thank you" she added genuinely but cordially. At least one of them had managed to keep on task today. Madison had gone quiet at Liz's approach. Yeah she knew better than to interrupt. "You must be Madison? The Colonel's daughter yes?" She questioned.
"Yes Ma'am. I apologize I was over here admiring your bird." She pointed at the jet. Lizzie nodded.
"Nothing wrong with a girl who wants to fly" Liz reminded her with a small smile. Madison asked the questions she wanted to ask. Though she didn't mention the part about how her mother was probably going to completely reject her thoughts about everything.
"Major Dovev, can you do me a small favor?" Madison replied as she turned to the officer. "Don't tell my mom or stepdad that we talked... I haven't really told them yet." Her mother HATED jets. Madison still had to figure out that entire conversation.
"Of course." It was just harmless questions and Lizzy knew she was just responsible for passing on the truth. Better her than someone who didn't have a clue. .
Madison turned towards Brian. "I was actually headed to lunch myself..." well that was about as close to an invitation as he was going to get to join her.

Brian grins at her when she starts spewing off information about the jet, "Yes...I'm well aware, and yes Major Dovev is a she. I just want to fly...Don't really care much about the officer thing, but if that's what it takes to fly...then I'll do it." He says confidently before laughing with her, deciding that her laughter must be contagious.
Brian smirks when she calls him a goody two shoes, "Yeah...I wouldn't go as far as to say that; but I know when to follow orders and if my orders are to stand here and babysit the jet, well then that's what I'll do. Like I said, I'm doing whatever it takes...to end up in there," He says pointing at the jet. "I've been flying my father's planes for longer than I've been driving...but that's the one I want to fly."
When the Major told him he was done for the day he replied "Yes ma'am...thank you, and you're welcome." His eyes snapped up to Madison's face and he about choked on the gum he was chewing when he heard that she was the Colonel's daughter coughing several times in the process. After excusing himself to get a bottle of water he returned to hover and listen discretely to the rest of the conversation hoping to learn more about Madison.
Brian smiles when he hears her ask the Major not to tell her parents about speaking to her today, and can't help but wonder why she would have to hide her desire to be in the military from her parents...off all people you would think that they would understand.
When he hears her mention that she's about to head to lunch he about chokes again, he's not sure how to take this girl at all...she's definitely got plenty of sass to spare. Oh, he's definitely going to lunch with her that's for sure. She's intrigued him, and he wants to figure her out. "So your choice, where are we going for lunch?"

Madison didn't care much for military officers. They were... yeah. There were words for it but she wasn't going to use them when there were officers around. If that got back to her parents. Oh boy was she in for a world of trouble. Problem with being the kid of a high ranking officer, they knew things even when you didn't tell them.
The blonde snickered some at his whole not being a goody two shoes. Yeah whatever. Whatever he had to tell himself to sleep at night. She just gave him a shrug. Well you had to start from the bottom up. At least he had enough sense, unlike the other guy. Yeah right the guy who Dovev had reamed out for a good long while.
It didn't go unnoticed that he was choking when he found out she was the daughter of a Colonel. Some people. Seriously. Just because her mother probably kept tabs on her? I mean come on. She shrugged when he walked off. Didn't put any a dent in her day. She was thankful when the major decided not to go blaring her questions to her parents. Her mother would kill her if she knew she wanted to fly. Then again Stephanie was a pita, and that was an understatement.
"Somewhere on base. I leave the base my mother will have my head" she pointed out. Madison could do as she pleased for the most part, as long as she stayed on base. That was Stephanie's rule. On base where she could stay out of trouble. Most of the time she tried to stay out of trouble. Not that it always happened, but at least she tried.

When Madison mentioned needing to stay on base Brian chuckled a bit, before using her own words to tease her "Now who's being a goody two shoes?" Not that he would have taken her off base anyway, he didn't need her parents hunting him down and making his life miserable. "Well then, let's go find us some lunch before the Major changes her mind when she realizes that she's not got anyone helpful left here." He says already walking away from the jet towards the exit.
"So, it took me all of about one time dealing with the wrath of an officer to figure out that they aren't messing around. I guess you could say I learned my lesson pretty quickly, besides getting humiliated in front of a crowd is not my thing. Those guys back there, they're not very quick on the uptake and have yet to figure out that just because you're in public doesn't mean that you don't have to follow orders...The major could care less about where we are, if you mess up...she's going to call you on it." He says as they continue walking towards the exit of the airfield.
So shoot him, he was curious and he decides that he's going to be nosey, "I have to ask though...Colonel's daughter and all, why are you having to keep your interest in the Air Force a secret? I figured that with your parents being officers, they would understand better than anyone your desire to serve."
Stopping in the parking lot next to his truck, he asks "So...since I'm buying lunch, you can decide where we're going? Are you ok with riding with me, or would you rather go separate? I mean we could always walk...but most of the places are on the other side of base." He doesn't want to push her and make her feel uncomfortable.

Madison rolled her eyes as she was called a goody two shoes. She listened to him talk about his run in with officers. She shrugged. "My mom's not like that but... I pity those who cross her" she mused out. Oh she'd seen Stephanie's anger and humiliation would be the least of their problems. Having the Colonel on your case was not her idea of fun.
"It's not that she doesn't want me to serve" she stated with a shrug. No, she had a feeling that both mom and stepdad would support that. "Mom has this thing against flying. She's Army. It's a thing. No real love for pilots even if she did marry one." Oh yes that got to Madison. She didn't think James would keep her from flying; but it was her mother's wrath she didn't feel like facing.
"I walked here. My car is parked in my driveway" she pointed in the general direction of base housing. "And for the record, I am not picky" she replied with a smirk as she tossed her head towards them. No she wasn't picky but she wasn't going to spearhead the way either.

"Correction...your mom's not like that with YOU...I can guarantee she'd be like that to someone like me." He laughed, "Of course I'm getting used to it, hence the reason that I try my best to follow orders and stay in line. Thanks for the heads up, hopefully I wont run into her anytime soon and I'll definitely remember to try not to cross her." Yes, avoiding Madison's parents had made it firmly to the top of his to do list; but that didn't mean he had to avoid Madison.
He shrugged when Madison mentioned that her Mom was army, and there was a thing. The thing which she referenced was more often than not a friendly rivalry between the branches, when it came down to it they all had each other's backs. Madison had mentioned that her mother had married a pilot, so it couldn't be too big of a thing right? "Well if she can get past her thing to marry a pilot surely she'd eventually be able to accept that her daughter wants to be a pilot. I mean it only makes sense." At least it made sense to him, his parents hadn't cared which branch he chose to serve in and they would have been proud of him no matter what he'd chosen.
"You're more than welcome to ride with me," he says patting his hand on the hood of his truck, "or I suppose we could walk if you choose somewhere kinda close...these shiny shoes feel like they're about two sizes too small." He looked at Madison and waited for her to make her decision.

Madison shook her head. "Chicken" she grumbled under her breathe with a smirk. Oh trying to decipher her mother's logic... yeah he would fall down a gopher hole and never come out. Just when Madison thought she understood her mother and stepfather... yeah well things got even more confusing. Adults were just obnoxious. Though she missed her adoptive parents, the ones who raised her.
"I um..." she didn't feel comfortable getting in his truck. "How about I go get my car and meet you there?" she offered. "You might beat me there by a bit" to her that didn't matter too much, better than him turning out to be some serial killer or something.

Brian shook his head when he heard her call him a chicken under her breath, "Really? You of all people are calling me a chicken?" He chuckled before glancing at her and smiling, "Who's the one scared to tell her mom that she wants to fly? I mean I'm not judging though, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with having a healthy fear of scary things." He smiled and nodded when she said she'd rather go get her own car and meet him there, He leaned back against his truck and crossed his arms studying her. He understood why she would be uncomfortable getting into his truck, and honestly he was glad she was smart enough not to. Not that he would have hurt her, but you never knew what other people might do. "Hey that's fine with me, it actually gives me some time to stop by my place and change into something a little more comfortable anyway. I mean I know I make these things look good," He gestured to his uniform laughing, "But they sure aren't very comfortable. Where would you like to meet?" tag: Ensign Madison Pierce

"Yes, I am calling you a chicken." She confirmed her statement with a smirk just to prove she had meant it in a completely teasing manner. "Yeah well you don't know that whole story. I'm not AFRAID of her." She knew Steph would be disappointed in her decision but she also knew that James wouldn't be able to change her mother's mind.
"I'm seriously game for anything." As long as she could get away from the vegetarian diet her mother kept. Madison only got a chance to eat meat if James was cooking anything. Stephanie seemed to have an aversion to anything that wasn't some sort of organically grown plant.

He smirked at Madison as she continued to pick on him calling him a chicken, and smiled at her when she told him he didn't know the whole story that she wasn't afraid of Stephanie. "Maybe not afraid of her, but something has you afraid to tell her what you want to do with your life." He surmised. "So you're game for anything? As in you eat meat, and I don't have to find some place that serves organic everything? Cheeseburgers are good with you?" He asked to clarify because most girls these days were on some kind of organic plant diet these days. Brian always tried to tell them that they weren't rabbits and humans were made to eat meat, but you could never convince a girl on a crazy diet of that. If this girl would eat a good old fashioned cheese burger he might just marry her on the spot. So maybe he was exaggerating quite a bit, but it would definitely earn points in her favor if he didn't have to find special food to make her happy. "If you're ok with Cheeseburgers there's this little diner that I've found on base that has pretty amazing cheeseburgers and old fashioned malts to go with them. We could meet there, unless you had other ideas that is." Tag: Ensign Madison Pierce
