Erin listened to her dad. It was all stuff she knew but was too close to the case to think of herself. Though she didn’t want to file herself in the victim category, that’s exactly what she had been. Even moving in with Kelly hadn’t helped her get much sleep at night. When he was gone and the house was empty it was even harder. Erin had stayed with her dad at first the days that Kelly worked. Now she was trying to get something of a normal routine back. It was easier said than done. “I hardly opened that case. I haven’t read my file. I don’t remember everything and I don’t want to remember everything.” Erin reminded him. She handed him the other file. “That’s everything on Mrs. Cole.” She decided him reading it was better than her explaining it. Erin took a moment. “I haven’t had a chance to speak with her. I thought it was best she had a few days at home first.” Usually Erin did her interviews much faster but she had somewhere along the line slipped up on this one. Maybe because she was too close herself. Sighing she looked towards her dad and was blatantly ignoring his statement about this guy wanting to get something on her. No, that wasn't going to happen. Erin was going to bury the guy first and there was nothing that anyone else could do about it. Erin just sighed and threw everything she had at this case in the last few weeks. Until this guy was gone, she wasn't going to stop. End of story. Tag: Sgt. Hank Voight

Hank never wanted to see Erin’s name on a board somewhere, it was any parents nightmare but right then Erin was as much a victim of this guy as anyone else. He hated to see her like that and sure he couldnt really but her name was against the case file. Having Erin stay with him the first days after Kelly went back to work was great, he knew what was going on he knew he could keep her safe. It just made sense and now she wanted her normal routine back. He was just glad that they had been partnered together now. “Erin, I’m not going to give you ‘that’ speech but you have to know if you bury it, it will only come back to haunt you. Remembering even the smallest detail can help, you know that.” Hank said not wanting to give her the full victim speech they gave out but if he had to he would do. “Thanks.” Hank said taking a minute to briefly glance over the file on Mrs. Cole. “Sure that was considerate of you but Erin, we need to push to get the details on this. Home or not she might have a missing link to this.” If it wasn’t Erin Hank might have snapped at the detective for not getting to it faster, her personal connection to the case too didnt exactly help in a sense but Hank wanted the guy. He wanted to be sure that Erin was safe and if he had to become the enemy he was willing to do that. “Erin, maybe you should slow down on this a little. Take a breath and just step back for a minute.” Hank suggested figuring he wasnt going to get a yeah great idea response but still it was a suggestion. “We will get this guy I promise but not at the expense of you.” He added being deadly serious. Erin had moved in with Kelly, so it wasn’t like she was ever really alone. “I know I didn’t remember as much right away. Sometimes people remember later and pressing her right away was going to make things worse.” She paused a moment. “For everyone.” She hadn’t gotten to be a cop and the last thing she needed was a lecture. “And I don’t need any speech.” Erin was too close to this to work on it. Too close to really look at it as it should be looked at. “He’s already done his damage to me!” She snapped. “There isn’t anything more he can do to me. I will get him and then I will be able to sleep. I won’t have to see his face laughing at me everytime I close my eyes.” She argued. Grabbing the check she paid and then left the bar headed for a place to think. Arguing with her dad hardly ever went well and well right now she wanted this guy. It was late and Erin was headed for Grace’s. She’d heard word that her husband was deployed, it wouldn’t be an easy time to talk to her but at the same time, it couldn’t wait. Hank was right about that. Walking through Tierney wasn’t a difficult task but they weren’t in Tierney. They were a 30 minute drive outside of town. Tag: Sgt. Hank Voight

Hank listened to Erin talk about why she hadn’t pressed for the information straight away, sure she had her reasons though if there was ever a case for a cop being too close to it. It was Erin. He couldn’t blame her and he knew a lecture was the last thing she needed but it was clear to see she was far too close to it for her own good. “Then I won’t give you one because I know you know your job Erin. Just think like a cop.” He said deciding to skip the thousand work lecture he had given every other cop that got too close to a situation. “He has but you’re stronger than this Erin, I know you are.” Hank stated as he gave her a pass on her snapping. “There is a lot more this guy can do to you and don’t ever think that it cant happen. Erin look at me, you don’t have to see his face and between Kelly and I we won’t let anything happen to you. Just used your head and stop acting like you want revenge. It will only hurt you.” Hank snapped back deciding that perhaps that conversation was long overdue. Hank wanted to argue with her even more though it wasnt really going to end well as he followed Erin. “So how are you going to get anywhere tonight?” Hank asked her knowing he had only had the one beer so driving was still possible but letting Erin anywhere near car right now. Nope he might have had one beer but that didnt take all of his sense away. “Thirty minute drive and you’re not walking it alone. Didn’t you listen to what I said earlier?” He asked her, if the guy they were after wanted an opportunity then he had it if she went to walk the distance or even drive it. Tag: Det. Erin Voight

Erin did know her job but thinking like a cop when she had one too many was just not possible. Erin hated it when her dad was right. Cringing she knew her dad was right about the revenge bit but that didn’t mean she didn’t want it. The man had left her to die, the damage to her lungs still made it hard to breathe some days. Erin was still healing and the men around her were treating her like glass. It was getting agitating. Sometimes she felt like she was doing the job of the Arson department; but this was personal and this was a serial killer. “I never said I was walking or driving.” Erin ascertained back at her dad. Since the incident she’d become more combative and more critical of everyone and everything. Yeah, she had been listening to what he’s said earlier. “So what I just let him get away with trying to kill me? I let him get away with trying to kill Grace? I can’t just sit around and not go after this guy.” She started to cough reaching for her inhaler so she could breathe a little better. Erin stopped where she was and just let tears fall. She hadn’t broken down too many times since the incident, but she was breaking now and somewhere she felt safe, right by her dad. Tag: Sgt. Hank Voight

Hank just stared at Erin for a moment, “So how are you going to get there?” Hank asked her as he felt like adding flying into the mix of things but then being sarcastic wasnt exactly going to help things. Erin had changed since this happened and yes Hank knew why and that it was only normal to do so but this was his little girl. His baby that was upset and had been hurt. He wasnt going to stand for it but he knew Erin was too close to this for her own good. Mistakes could be made and she could put herself in more danger by just making those bad choices. “Erin calm down, I’m not asking you to let him get away with it. What do you think people are working on? You think I’m just sitting it out and not bothering about it? You can’t go after this guy because you’re not in the right mind to do so and you know it.” Hank stated knowing that somewhere between the cop, the booze and the inhaler Erin would know why it was a bad idea. Hank’s heart practically broke seeing her cry, she didnt break down like that but right now maybe she just needed to let it out. Hank wrapped his arms around her protectively. “Shhhs, it’s okay, you’re safe and just take slow breaths.” He said softly or rather his version of softly. Hank rubbed her back slowly hoping to calm her down a little so that she could just let it go for one night. To just talk and think and take a break from going after a guy that an entire police force was doing. “You’re in no state to do this tonight so for one evening, just one. I want you to relax.” Hank said not meaning go back and get ten more beers but he figured she would know what he was trying to say. Tag: Det. Erin Voight

o Erin didn’t let it out; but after almost dying. Refusing to cry about it, getting lost in her work, and the inability to get her hands on this guy wasn’t enough. Hank was one of the few people she felt she could cry around and right now Hank was here. “Until he comes back again or goes after someone else knowing it will eat away at me.” She narrowed her eyes but failed at trying to hold the front. “How many more people have to die because of me failing to get him?” Erin wanted this guy. Maybe Erin wasn’t really going to go out after this guy right this second; but she was putting up her front so she wouldn’t break down and then the break down had been inevitable. She didn’t fight her dad’s protective hold this time. Somewhere inside of her she needed it. A little girl never got to old to be protected by her dad when things came down to it. Erin felt the circles on her back and listened to Hank. “Everytime I think I can stop seeing everything. I’m right back in that burning house. I can hear his voice, see his face. It taunts me.” Going back to her dad’s place for the night wasn’t out of the picture in the state she was in and going home to an empty house wasn’t exactly in her best interest. “There are days I want to go back to Chicago.” This was one of those days. Chicago was home; this place was… hell. Tag: Sgt. Hank Voight

Hank just held Erin, it was every cops nightmare to not be able to get the person you knew had done something. It wasnt for lack of trying but then maybe trying too hard clouded things. It was easy to take a step back and see something when the stakes weren’t that high. “No more people Erin and this isn’t on you. It’s the guy doing this and i’d be worried if it wasnt eating at you.” Hank said even though it hurt to see something eating at her the way this was. The one thing he swore to do was to be there for his family, he tried not to lose sight of that and hearing that Erin had been hurt by this guy. Yeah he wanted him as much if not more than she did but Tierney wasnt Chicago. He could have easily turned Chicago inside out but this place was different, if all he could do was hold her protectively and make sure that no further harm came to her. Yeah he wasnt about to walk away from doing that at all. “You can’t let this guy get to you like that. The fact you’re tired and going at this too hard is probably half of the battle right now. I know you wont want to hear this but take a few days. A few days to get out of your own head then with fresh eyes we can look at this again.” Hank said though he was sure if she didnt agree to it he would try going further up whatever command chain he had to, to get her time she needed. It might not be the best option and yes he ran the risk of pushing her away but Hank was more interested in her safety and wellbeing. “You know if it was up to me you’d be back in Chicago in a heartbeat but I know that isn’t you.” Hank said keeping his protective hold on her. “Home is where you want it to be, it might not feel like home yet but I’m sure it will do. Even if I need to move Chicago here for you, we’ll get it to feel like home.” Hank couldnt much speak on that as Tierney was turning into his own personal hell too but then everything could change. Home was where Erin was and she was here so he wasnt about to think of home anywhere else. Tag: Det. Erin Voight
